Friday Inspiration - Granny Squares

I love granny squares!  That's almost like admitting a guilty pleasure.  There's just something about the infinite color combinations and being able to complete a project in such tidy, portable little parts that has sucked me in.  I'm addicted!  I'm currently working on a bed sized afghan (the blog logo picture is part of it) for my youngest son and his wife, but I'm already thinking about what will be next.  Here's what has me inspired:

This flower granny from Blair at Wise Craft is beautiful.  I can see it as anything from a sunflower to a gerbera daisy, depending on the yarn color used.  I definitely need this!  The free pattern is here.

Update:  This pattern is originally from the Red Heart Yarn but is no longer on their website, so I'm linking to Blair's above.  The scarf to the right is joined while making the squares.

And this scarf is beyond cute!  I'll be crocheting up a couple this year for people on my Christmas gift list.  Okay - I just heard most of the people on my list gag.  Don't worry.  I know you do not want one!  Made By K has a free tutorial on her blog here.

I probably would have looked right by this poncho a few years ago, but now it's just enough retro to be cool.  I'll feel right back in the 1970's whenever I wear it.  And my sons just made mental notes to not be seen with me in cool weather!  The free pattern is here on the Lion Brand Yarn website.  I need some bell bottom jeans ....

This isn't really a granny square, but more of the connecting stitches from granny squares.  It looks like a great way to use up ends of skeins and get my yarn closet cleaned out.  So I have room for more yarn!  The free pattern is here on The Garden Bell's blog.

And this is my big inspiration for the New Year.  It's a sweater from the 1950's that I found on the UK Knitting and Crochet Guild's website, however it's no longer up on their website.  There wasn't a pattern, which means developing my own.  It's knitted and crocheted with fingering yarn, but I'm thinking of trying it out in cotton embroidery floss and using crochet throughout (since I don't knit).  I'll keep you updated on it!
